NIGSCON 2022: Event Proper

NIGSCON 2022 was successfully conducted in HyFlex mode at the National Institute of Geological Sciences Audio-Visual Rool (NIGS AVR) and livestreamed through Facebook on October 27-28, 2022. Below are some of the featured photos during the event proper.

Facilitated by the NIGSCON 2022 organizing committee, registration opened at 8:30 AM for the two-day research symposium.

Dr. Noelynna T. Ramos, the NIGS OIC-Director, gave her welcome address to formally start the event on October 27, 2022.

Honorable Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr., Ph.D. gave the keynote address with his presentation "Science, Technology and Innovation Beyond the Pandemic" during the first day of the conference on October 27, 2022.

In memory of the late Dr. Maria Ines Rosana Balangue-Tarriela, some of the research work she was involved in were featured during the plenary presentations on the morning of October 27, 2022, given by Mr. Ciceron Angeles, Jr., M.Sc., Dr. Raymond Patrick R. Maximo and Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay.

During the two-day symposium, a total of 37 research studies were presented both in-person and virtually. The presentations included NIGS Grant presentations, student and non-student presentations and poster presentations.

The conference was attended in-person by NIGS professors, students and researchers, and geoscientists from different institutions and agencies. The Zoom platform had also accommodated around 90 participants and around 20 individuals tuned in to the Facebook livestream.

One of the sponsors of the event, Cytek Solutions Inc., set up a booth at the NIGS 2nd floor lobby for the duration of the conference. Students, professors and laboratory assistants stopped by.

Before the event came into a close, awardees for the Outstanding Student Presentation Award (OSPA) were recognized. Three oral presentations and one poster presentation were selected by the esteemed panel of judges comprised by Dr. Leo T. Armada, Dr. Sandra G. Catane, Dr. Gabriel Theophilus V. Valera and Mr. Richard Ybañez, M.Sc. The awardees are:

Oral presentation (2nd place): Mr. Caleb D. Jalmasco

Oral presentation (3rd place): Ms. Denise Faye S. Janer

Poster presentation (1st place): Mr. Norman Ken T. Blase

Dr. Mario A. Aurelio, the Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed his gratitude to everyone who has made the event possible in his closing remarks which formally closed the event proper.

During the night of the second day, dinner and cocktails were served, and a short program was held in celebration of the success of the first ever HyFlex NIGS research symposium.
