NIGSCON 2024: Event Proper
NIGSCON 2024 was successfully conducted at the National Institute of Geological Sciences Audio-Visual Room (NIGS AVR) on November 14-15, 2024. Below are some of the featured photos during the event proper.
Facilitated by the NIGSCON 2024 organizing committee, registration opened at 8:00 AM for the two-day research symposium.
Dr. Noelynna T. Ramos, the NIGS Director, gave her welcome address to formally start the event on November 14, 2024.
The Keynote Presentation of Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay, Director of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI) with the title"Devastating Lahars of KristinePH in the Coastal Areas of Taal Lake" marked the commencement of the research presentations on November 14, 2024.
On the second day, Dr. Laurice Jamero from the Manila Observatory opened the program with her Plenary Talk on the WCRP Academy.
A total of 42 research studies were presented. These included the keynote and plenary talks, NIGS Grant presentations, student and non-student oral presentations and poster presentations.

Photos: Poster presenters were given two minutes to briefly explain their research during the Flash Talks session. Afterwards, the poster session commenced.
The conference was attended by NIGS professors, students and researchers, and geoscientists from the academe and the industry.
Before the event came into a close, awardees for the Outstanding Student Presentation Award (OSPA) were recognized. Three oral presentations and three poster presentations were selected by the esteemed panel of judges comprised by Dr. Leo T. Armada, Dr. John Dale Dianala,and Dr. Gabriel Theophilus V. Valera. The awardees are:

Dr. Betchaida Payot, the Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed her gratitude to everyone who has made the event possible in her closing remarks which formally closed the event proper.
During the night of the second day, dinner and cocktails were served, and a short program was held in celebration of the success of the 19th NIGS research symposium.
