NIGSCON 2023: Event Proper
NIGSCON 2023 was successfully conducted at the National Institute of Geological Sciences Audio-Visual Room (NIGS AVR) on October 17-18, 2023. Below are some of the featured photos during the event proper.
Facilitated by the NIGSCON 2023 organizing committee, registration opened at 8:00 AM for the two-day research symposium.
Dr. Noelynna T. Ramos, the NIGS OIC-Director, gave her welcome address to formally start the event on October 17, 2023.
The Keynote Presentation of Dr. Maricor N. Soriano from the University of the Philippines - National Institute of Physics (UP-NIP) with the title "Coral Reef Monitoring - From Bancas to Deep Learning" marked the commencement of the research presentations on October 17, 2023.
In the return of NIGSCON in face-to-face mode, a total of 49 research studies were presented. The presentations included NIGS Grant presentations, student and non-student presentations and poster presentations.

A special session was also dedicated for researchers from the University of the Philippines - Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI) moderated by Dr. Caroline Marie B. Jaraula.
The conference was attended by NIGS professors, students and researchers, and geoscientists from different institutions and agencies. Out of the 112 total participants, 86 were from NIGS and UPGAA, 23 were from other academic institutions, 11 were from the industry and 2 were from government agencies.
Before the event came into a close, awardees for the Outstanding Student Presentation Award (OSPA) were recognized. Three oral presentations and three poster presentations were selected by the esteemed panel of judges comprised by Dr. Robert Michael DiFilippo, Dr. Chelo S. Pascua, Dr. Americus D.C. Perez, Dr. Gabriel Theophilus V. Valera, Dr. Allan Gil S. Fernando and Dr. Jilian Aira S. Gabo-Ratio. The awardees are:

Dr. Mario A. Aurelio, the Chair of the Organizing Committee, expressed his gratitude to everyone who has made the event possible in his closing remarks which formally closed the event proper.
During the night of the second day, dinner and cocktails were served, and a short program was held in celebration of the success of the 18th NIGS research symposium.
